It was somewhat prescient of Usain to say that he felt he was ready to run 9.85 and not 9.76.... adjusting for wind he did indeed run 9.85

Asafa's 9.78 semi before his WR in Italy last year is actually a more impressive peformance than the 9.74 as the adjustments below suggest.

All the best to Usain...sprinting to a new level

Adjusting for wind/altitude, using the Big Gold Book tables, Bolt's time (9.85) is =No. 12 ever.

I'm not clear on how this particular analyst ranks the 9.85 adjusted time as the 12th fastest- I count only 5 faster times by 3 athletes including the soon to be discredited Mo Greene.

Still a very good run from someone who hasn't ran many 100s

No, but I am still very impressed by his run.

you remember a few years ago we all did a wonder if him done? If he was going to be another one a them great high school athlete who fade away?

              That make it even better.

Yes, but that was because of his back injury related to his growing too fast for his own use or whatever it was. It did look like that was going to be the end.

I don't get this.... there are 5 faster adjusted times according to the table ... where does the 12th come from?

It appears that they have ranked the 9.85 12th since it is twelfth on the list... whoever is ranked at 9.86 would presumably be 21st as collectively a faster time than his would have been run 20 times regardless of ties... just like when you came 3rd in class (tied), the next highest average was fifth.

ok I see ... but that formula is ridiculous (to me).

Bolt is tied with 8 others for the sixth fastest adjusted time.... that makes way more sense (to me).

You probably need to advise them about common practice when ranking times.

Don't know why these organizations don't check with you rather than just making up new conventions.

Can you imagine rewarding someone for doing something first..
