    Munro Boys lead Western eliminations
STETHS Girls bow into action at Santa Cruz

SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth - Many-time champions St Elizabeth Technical High (STETHS) are expected to dominate today's eliminations of the Milo-sponsored Western Girls Championships in Santa Cruz.

STETHS amassed over 500 points last year on their way to a massive win and look set to retain the title .

Twenty-one schools will take part in the meet, with 14 finals to be completed today. The heats and semi-finals of the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m will also be contested.

Among today's finals are the three 1500m events; high jump classes 1,2 and 4 and long jump classes 1, 3 and 4; all three discus events, as well as the shot put and javelin Open
Meanwhile, Munro College lead the Boys' section after 14 finals were completed Tuesday at Mannings School in Sav-La-Mar.

Munro boast 139 points - 27 more than hosts Mannings on 112, followed by STETHS on 73, defending champions Herbert Morrison on 54.5 and Petersfield on 52.5.

Despite outstanding performances from the Munro throwers highlighted by two records in the Class 2 discus and shot put from Rajae Gayle, the meet was marred by poor organisation and a lengthy delay late in the day due to a loud and disorderly protest from Munro.

A Munro 400m runner who won his heat was left off the list for the semi-final, and while members of the coaching staff staged a loud protest, members of the team also joined.
Despite being told several times to leave the infield, the Munro students refused, causing several officials, including the starter, to leave their designated areas.

This incident, coupled with the late start, forced the meet to end prematurely, with the semi-finals of the Classes 2,3 and 4 200m and the heats of the relays still to be contested.
Organisers are planning to run these events early on Tuesday's final day to be held at STETHS.

Gayle had a best throw of 46.53m for the discus and later 14.44m for the shot put, erasing last year's marks by team-mate Omar Bryan, who retained the Class 1 double won last year.

Petersfield's Jeffrey Graham was also a double winner, taking the Class 3 discus and shot put double with 37.13m and 11.62m, respectively.

Herbert Morrison's Tevaskie Lewin retained the Class 2 high jump with 1.85m, while Chadrick Morrison of Munro won Class 3 with 1.65m.

Today, IAAF World Youth Games relay medallist Shavine Hodges of Mt Alvernia and Herbert Morrison's CARIFTA Games triple gold medallist, Antonique Campbell, will be on show in Class 2.

Campbell, who missed a spot on the team to Ostrava due to illness, is expected to compete in the 200m and 400m, while Hodges will run in the 100m, 200m and 400m.

STETHS' girls could sweep the high jumps, with Tanesha Edmunds in Class 1, Rochelle Reid who has cleared 1.70m already this year in Class 2 and Atena Henry in Class 4.

Boys' points standings after 14 finals
Munro 139, Mannings 112, STETHS 73, Herbert Morrison 54.5, Petersfield 52.5, Albert Town and Knockalva 9, Lewisville and Cornwall College 8, Grange Hill and Maude McLeod 7, Frome and Rusea's 6, William Knibb Memorial 5, Irwin 4, St James High 3; Balaclava, Green Island and Holland High 2 and Godfrey Stewart 1.
