the harbajan incident with symonds....harbajan allegedly hit brett lee on the backside....symonds then said:

'You seem to be very friendly with our bowlers' - that's what he [Symonds] said. 'Aren't you trying to be friends with me now? I'm a bowler, as well.'

no one has said what harbajan's response was. it has been said that it was racist....harbajan denies it...but i have to say that there is something VERY peculiar about that exchange....very queer indeed!

Solidarity is not a matter of well wishing, but is sharing the very same fate whether in victory or in death.

United Indian Association President Raj Natarajan: -

“It was surprising that the match referee, Mr. Mike Proctor, has taken the view that Harbhajan Singh made racial comments. It is alleged that Harbajan Singh called Andrew Symonds a monkey during an on-field verbal spat at the SCG and this was considered as racist by the match referee.

“Considering that the “Monkey God” is one of the revered idols of Hindu mythology and worshipped by millions, it is surprising it was considered a racist term. Even more surprising is that the word “monkey” is considered by the match referee serious enough to slap a three match ban on Harbhajan Singh. Many other more unsavoury words exchanged on the field go un-noticed.
“The UIA and its members feel that the Australian team has behaved in an un-sporting manner which has made the second test between India and Australia a poor example of the game.

“While UIA and ISC always support the Australian Cricket Team, it has to be said that in the Sydney Test their behaviour was unbecoming of a World Champion Cricket Team when they aimed to win at any cost. On the day, records seemed more important than sportsmanship and fair play. We see this as a sour victory for the Aussies.”

While being ignorant of the facts I don't put anything past an Aussie to do whatever he can to rile an opponent...which does not excuse racist comments from said riled opponent. You have to know how to give and take the sledging.

Added to the sledging was the fact the man (Symonds) didn't walk at 30 when he was clearly out... and then going on to make a massive 162 n.o. (I believe). That MUST have upset the Indians.

Unfortunately, cricket is no longer the gentleman's game that Mr Carnegie (RIP) talked to us first formers about at JC.
