Jamaica College Old Boys Association to mark 20th anniversary with Awards Banquet
Honorees feature Jamaican and American luminaries headlined by Hon. Danny Williams
April 2, 2012 - New York, NY -- The Jamaica College Old Boys Association of New York, Inc. (JCOBA) today announced that its 20th Anniversary will be celebrated with an Awards Banquet Saturday May 12, 2012. The event will be held at the LaGuardia Plaza Hotel in East Elmhurst, New York City.
Headliners for the occasion will be special guest and honoree, Hon. Danny Williams, immediate past Chairman of the Jamaica College Board of Governors and current head of the Jamaica College Foundation and Ruel Reid, Principal of JC as keynote speaker. Jamaican business icon Hon. Danny Williams will receive the Distinguished Alumnus Award for services to both Jamaica and Jamaica College.
The honor roll is completed by business leaders Wayne Seaton, the top Black executive at Wells Fargo Bank, Sabrina Hosang, CEO of Royal Caribbean Bakery and Kwame Dawes, Emmy Award winning poet, author and musician. Mr. Seaton and Mr. Dawes will receive the Outstanding Alumnus Award and Ms. Hosang will be the recipient of JCOBA’s Community Service Award for charitable work in the Tri-State area.
Dr. Dwight Williams, President of JCOBA remarked “We welcome the opportunity to recognize our 20 years of service to Jamaica College and the local community with this Awards Banquet. Our honorees exemplify the standards of leadership, selfless service and excellence which have been the hallmarks of Jamaica College for over 200 years.”
The event will be an opportunity for the Tri-State community to learn more about and to celebrate the remarkable transformation at Jamaica College over the past six years, envisioned and led by Hon. Danny Williams and Principal Reid with overwhelming support from JC alumni.
Under their leadership JC’s physical plant has seen a JA$350m upgrade, accompanied by ongoing academic staff enhancement, improved academic outcomes and soaring morale from the entire JC community. JC has also re-affirmed itself as a national leader in the secondary school system with innovative academic enrichment programs including Robotics, Aviation and Marine Sciences.
Whether on land, sea or air Jamaica College presents leading edge opportunities for its students and a national model for Jamaica’s educational reform.
