Does a team, any team for that matter, reflects the mental state of it's TD or whomever is in charge Head?
Take the USA for example: In there last campain under Steve Sampson, the Americans appeared panicky and unsure, especailly at the time when Sampson's job appeared to be on the line.
Not so this time around though. Under Bruce Arena, who as been a success at every levels he as coached, from College to MLS and now the US National Men's team. The "Yanks" appear to be very confident and assured of themselves. Could this be because of the coach, Bruce Arena? What if a few losses were to occur, and say Arena came under fire. Would this reflect in the on the field display of his charge?
If a player is injured Arena doesn't panick, it seems, which in turn must gives the other players that are vying for a place on the starting roster a lot of confidence.
Now, compared this with Jamaica: After Lawrence and Ricketts went down with an injury, the JFF went in search of a goalkeeps--In can "Bugsy". One now must wonder what went through the mind of Leon Gordon, the third choice in the goalkeeping ranks. In the end, "Bugsy" apparently wasn't good enough, and as seeminly fallen of the face of this planet...or is he still an option?
Also, we are constantly including players that are known to be carrying a nagging injury to the sqaud. Okay, the training squad. But the final roster! That is a little ridiculous now. What does that do to the confidence of the other players? Knowing that they are basically being told that they are not good enough.
I know we don't have the depth like most, but still, one would have hoped that by now we would have at least a few "Alternates" to step in whenever the need arise.
Take a look at the "Soca Warriors": They seem a lot more confuse than us. Is that the mental state of their Head Coach, Ian Porterfield at this time? Considering the fact that during the first round, they were quite impressive in defeating Mexico and Canada at home. Their coach appeared confident, no one questioned his subs nor his tactics to the extent that they are now doing. But in those days his job was assured. Wasn't it? With his job now seemingly on the line, ever since the loss to Jamaica...Though I don't know why. Now the team appears to play with very little confidence, and purpose. As if waiting for the inevitable. Is this the mental state of Porterfield? Is he just waiting for the "axe" to fall?
What about Honduras, Costa Rica and Mexico?
Anyway, I am quite sure there are a number of factors that must come into play for there to be success or failure.
Is Clovis feeling the now feeling the heat? What will be the Boyz display come Saturday when the play Trinidad and Tobago in Trinidad? Will we play panicky; confident and compose or unsure...Whatever the display, will that be the mental state of Clovis? BTW, we will be playing TnT on a cricket field. I don't know why one would build quality facilities, and then turn around and play on a cricket field. Not unless one expects to see Walsh and Ambrose in football gears.
Victory is a must on Saturday. But if not-- Were do we go from there? Do we continue with Clovis? Drop a number of players and replace them with the U/20s or others that may have been knocking on the doors for sometime now?
I, however, will be positive and hope for the best...Victory!
