By Fitzroy Prendergast. Despite Jamaican Football Federation president Horace Burrell's unwillingness to name the some of the likely candidates for the job, sources close to the JFF have said former Romanian coach Victor Piturca is at the top of the list.
Piturca who guided that country to the 1998 World Cup finals, is tipped to take over from Clovis de Oliviera who led Jamaica in their unsuccessful World Cup Qualifying campaign. Piturca, who is currently in charge of Steaua Bucharest in Romania, is also in line for the newly vacant Romania coaching position as well.
Providing Piturca is confirmed has Jamaica's new technical director, it will mark the first time that the JFF under the guidance of Burrell, has used any coach outside of Brazil to take charge of the national programme.
An announcement is expected before Christmas.
In the past decade, Rene Simoes, Sebastian Lazaroni, and De Oliveira have guided the Reggae Boyz.
De Oliviera was axed after Jamaica's 1-0 loss to Honduras on September 5, virtually ending the Reggae Boyz hopes of a second consecutive World Cup qualification.
