There are certain fundamental facts you cannot get away from and that is if you have real team defense, the defensive team always has a real numerical advantage over the attacking team if the situation necessitates this, especially with the attacking team fear/control of risk of the break down of the attack, this risk is controlled by ensuring the defense or some significant portion of it stays at home on attack. Thus the defensive team can pack all 10 back in it's half to significantly lessen the possibility of a score, 10 against 6 or 7 or 8 is typically always a mismatch. The issue arises when the defending team thinks it is an attack force like Costa Rica with the inevitable result in the last two world cups, poor performances, TNT results and valour in game, displayed themsleves to be superior to Costa Rica in the cup even though conventional Concacaf wisdom would say otherwise.

That is why Ja must first focus on a defense first philosophy, second, a ball possession philosophy, third tenet is a rapid counter attack when the opportunity avails itself. A rapid couter does not need to happen with every ball possesion, but if that opportunity presents itself it must be taken advantage of, victory is assured where you can rapidly gain a numerical advantage over an opponent, that is speed and mass at a certain point, it works in every sport and I mean every sport!

This again is the basic philosophy of "Anasi ball" yeah! you might laugh, but this is the essential part of Jakan culture and it should be mirrored in ball culture. Anasi never attack until the time is ripe and when him move it done. Just like the spider, the tactic is to set the trap and to wait, when the prey is caught napping, or even just slightly day dreaming, move in for the kill, for Jakan ball the kill is the counter on the opportunity with the ball possession tactic used in normal build up to attack in hand as well, kick out the ball long never works as the opposing team is back at you in seconds, ball possesion kills the opportunity for an opponents opportunity to attack.

The Anansi style of combat is exactly the same tactic used by Maroons as well, when outgunned by the English the tactic is a set the trap, wait for the opportunity and when you strike you strike with speed and garner all the critical mass you can.

So defense, possession and speed should be the tenets of jakan ball culture in that order.
