Official opening of CFU Marketing Division tomorrow
Observer Reporter
Saturday, March 06, 2004

The recently established Caribbean Football Union's (CFU's) marketing division willl have its official opening at 4:00 pm at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel tomorrow.

The official opening party will be led by FIFA vice-president, CONCACAF and CFU president, Austin "Jack" Warner, and at least two other high-ranking FIFA officials assigned by FIFA president, Joseph "Sepp" Blatter.

"Also all 40 presidents of the national associations in the CONCACAF will be coming in to participate in this historic event," said Captain Horace Burrell, former president of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), who is now head of the marketing division.

The CFU marketing division, whose executive director is Horace Reid, will be located at The Towers, 25 Dominica Drive, Kingston 5.

Reid, a staunch associate of Captain Burrell and former general secretary of the JFF, resigned from his post shortly after the Burrell-led administration lost administrative responsibilities of the JFF at the federation's congress at the Starfish Resort in Trelawny last November.

Minister of sports, the Hon Portia Simpson Miller along with Warner will declare open the marketing division.

Meanwhile, the CFU will also be having its silver anniversary celebration here in Jamaica with a church service at 8:00 am at Church on the Rock tomorrow. This will be followed by a CONCACAF Symposium on Conflict Resolution to be held at the Jamaica Conference Centre between 12:00 noon - 4:00 pm.

A Dinner and Awards Ceremony to recognise this milestone will follow at 8:00 pm at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel with Simpson Miller being the guest speaker. All these events are expected to be attended by all presidents of the CONCACAF.

At the Dinner and Awards Ceremony, the CFU will recognise the contribution of six past Caribbean administrators to the development of the sport in the region.

Included in the six are Dr Jacques Rugard from Guadeloupe; Joseph Ursulet from Martinique; Locksley Comrie and Patrick Anderson from jamaica and Hubert Tromp from Aruba.

There will also be a special award, where the CFU will recognise the hon Courtney Walsh, leading wicket-taker in Test cricket history with 519 victims.

Entertainment will be provided by ASHE Ensemble, Ian Andrews and ACERS Steel Band.

"It is going to be a very busy event for Jamaica and for the Caribbean Football Union," noted Burrell.
