Posted - Feb 01 2004 : 3:33:08 PM Where can I watch international soccer on TV? With more Americans moving to play in Europe this year, U.S. soccer fans may want to follow their favorite European or international player through the 2003-2004 seasons. Fortunately, in today's age of widespread cable and satellite dishes, it is possible to catch your favorite team in action every week.
If you have cable, DirecTV, or a satellite dish, you have many options for watching soccer games. A good resource to utilize is a website called soccertv.com, which lists upcoming TV schedules for all channels which carry soccer games. Visit this website and search for a particular country for game time.
Satellite channels that carry soccer include: Galavision (Spanish), channel 833 on the DISH network and channel 404 on DirecTV; GOL TV (Spanish and English), channel 853 on the DISH network (Spanish) and channel 407 on DISH (English); Many English games, including the FA Cup, are available on weekends through pay-per-view or closed circuit TV at a local bar or restaurant. Usually, they cost $19.95 to watch at home, and you can order them through your satellite or cable service. Going out to a bar or restaurant may be affordable though so check soccertv.com or setanta.com for games in your area.
Sports cable networks are also carrying more and more international soccer games, including the ESPN channels, Fox Sports Net and Fox Sports World. In particular, Fox Sports World showcases English and German soccer on weekend mornings, supplemented by coverage of three more foreign leagues. For the Champions League, ESPN will show one game per match day while Fox Sports World will do the same for the UEFA Cup.
This coverage includes the following nations and teams:
# England
FSW offers two weekend games (delayed), Saturday at noon ET and Sunday at 2 PM ET. It occasionally shows games live on Saturdays at 7:30 AM ET and on weekdays. FSW also airs an English Premier League preview show during the week as well as additional EPL games on pay-per-view on the weekends.
# Germany
FSW offers live coverage of Bundesliga games each week: Saturday at 9:30 AM ET and Sunday at 11:30 AM ET. A one-hour German-highlight show airs at various times during the week.
# Holland
FSW will show one Eredivisie game a week live on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m ET with additional matches shown on tape delay through the week.
# France
One game from France is shown Friday or Saturday, depending on the Ligue 1 schedule, and FSW offers a one-hour highlight show each week.
# Brazil
FSW covers the Campeonato Brasilero, including 46 games and playoffs.
# Argentina
FSW shows an Argentine First Division game on delay each Sunday at 9 PM ET. (Fox Sports World En Espanol airs the same game live earlier in the day).
Thanks to contemporary technology, just because your favorite player may play for an international team doesn't mean you can't watch his games. |
