VMBS Under-12 kicks off April 3

THE 13th renewal of the VMBS under-12 football competition kicks off on April 3 with a dress parade and two games at the UDC playing field in Montego Bay.
Defending champions, Howard Cooke Primary, are seeking to stretch their hold on the trophy to three seasons -- a feat only achieved by Catherine Hall since the inception of the league in 1991.
They will open against Barrett Town All-Age, followed by three-time winners, Catherine Hall, against Roehampton.
Coach, Magnus Hemans, said he is confident that his team will make it to the finals. The young coach said he has retained five starters from last year's championship team, which he said has formed a strong unit with the new players.
'We are confident that we can defend our title,' Hemans told the Observer at the official launch held at the Grandiosa Hotel in Montego Bay on Tuesday.
Howard Cooke is among 18 primary, all-age, junior high and an all preparatory schools scheduled to compete for the VMBS Trophy and $18,000 first prize.
Other cash prizes are: second place, $14,000; third, $9,000, and fourth, $7,000.
The 18 teams will be divided into three zones of six.
Zone A: Howard Cooke, Granville All-Age, Lethe All-Age, Chetwood Primary, Barracks Rd Primary and Barrett Town All Age.
Zone B: Catherine Hall Primary, Cambridge Primary, Salt Spring All-Age, Mt Salem Primary, Roehampton and Farm Heights.
Zone C: Prep All Stars, Flankers Primary, Glendevon Primary, Lottery All-Age, Anchovy Primary and Cornaldi Primary.
Meanwhile, third deputy president of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), David Watt, who was guest speaker at the launch, lauded the sponsors for their efforts in building the foundation of Jamaica's future in the sport.
