Looking ahead

Arnett Gardens and Harbour View FC will represent Jamaica in the CFU competition, with HV bowing into action in October...according to reports.

I am quietly confident that Arnett will be prepared for this encounter (Unless the weather decides otherwise) but have my doubts about Harbour View...Though I hope they, too, prove me wrong.

The football season is still young, but, Habour View doesn't appear to be the team it use to be --during the Peter Cargill era-- and the new man in charge --Cannot recall his name-- I am hoping will be able to whip Fabian Taylor and company into shape and return Harbour View to it's more glorious days.

It is unfortunate that Hazard United will not be able to represent us, allowing Harbour View the opportunity to do so. But judging by form, I would rank HV behind Tivoli, Arnett, Hazard and, maybe even Village. But as I said before the season is still very young.

Good luck to the Junglist...Please don't let Pierre, the Haitian come on Reggae Lane bragging again. Dus' out those Haitians and everybody else.

The Girlz

If there is one team that is lacking preparation it is the senior RGz team. Set to face Canada, Costa Rica and Haiti (Is there one more team?) in group play of the Concacaf Womens Gold Cup. The only practice they will have is against TnT in a two game series in TnT in mid October.

They haven't been in training since drawing with Haiti in Haiti sometime ago, and are just now returning to camp to continue their quest for a place in the Womens W/Cup.

Good luck to the Reggae Girlz, but it takes more than luck to win competitions like the one they are about to participate in...It is called preparation.

Take TnT for instance: Their girls never really left camp. Training anywhere from 4 or more days per week.

Unfortunately there is a lack of facilities in Jamaica, along with poor planning between the JFF and its coaching staffs that appears to be hindering our progress at in football in both the male and female version of the game...and in particular the males.

Eg: Jackie Walters tend to appeal to the JFF via the media for games for the U/17 squad.

The coach of the senior RGz cries out to the "powers that be" for more assistance...via the media again.

Downswell and Cargill blames everything and everyone except the JFF. But if you read carefully you will see that they too send coded messages to the JFF for more practice games inorder the get their charges into shape.

What I am getting at is this: There appears to be a lack of communication between the JFF and the coaching when it comes around to the overall plan of youth development and tournament participation.

Suggestion: The JFF must make it's doors more open and "staff-friendly" to it's employess. While at the same time, those same employees must me encourage by management to approach with their concerns and suggestions/recomendations so that the cries for "who fail the youths" become a thing of the past.

I think "Burrell & company" must start sitting down with each coaching staff and map out the best possible plan for each age group teams. Factoring of course the financial limitations and lack of expertise withing the JFF and coach staffs itself. Just my communicating, planning and excecuting...would be maximizing everyones potential in doing the best job possible for the development of the game in Jamaica.

Still, understanding the difficulties or running a business effectively in Jamaica, I would credit the JFF and the coaching staff on doing a decent job (At this time), citing the lack of finace and expertise that is required to function effectively in the global soccer world. But there are obviously a number of areas that, in my opinion, we can and should immediately set out to improve upon beginnning with communication.

Respect and irie ites!
