After qualifying for the senior W/Cup in France, many Jamaicans, along with the JFF, believed or felt that we had finally arrived...Arrived we did, at France that is... However, they should have also recognised that inorder to stay (competititve) the journey had only just began.

Others saw and heard of our exploits during W/Cup qualifications and saw us strut our stuff at the "Big Dance"...even winning a game against Japan...many struggling football nations, like ours, were soon inspired to duplicate our feat or redidecate themselves to the game...Haiti appears to be one of them.

Haiti as always been a decent football playing nation by Caribbean standard...having qualified for the 1974 W/Cup games. And along with Cuba, Trinidad and Jamaica as been the best of the Caribbean for sometime now. They, however, appears to be hungry or hungrier for bigger and better things than what the Caribbean has to offer. Jamaica on the other hand, holds similar dreams, but seems to be lacking expertise and to a lesser extent, professionalism...thus the lack of sufficient improvement that should have long advanced us to a higher level.

We do have somethings right: Players are being called to camp at various times throughout the year. However, if the teachers/coaches cannot teach the subject at the required level that is needed to encourgae growth and improvement...then we shall continue to have these debates years from now.

What strikes me most about the game between JA and Haiti is (According to the game reports): Jamaica still doesn't have a philosophy, or so it seems, on how they would like to play the game.

Note: Downswell failed to identify the failure of team play. But instead talks about the few players that were missing from the squad. Now I am sure the Haitians were missing a player or two or even three. But that did not stop the eleven individuals on the field from playing as a team. Jamaica and it's coaching staff continues to emphasize individuals instead of team.

With a philosophy in place, Jamaica would have been able to give a better team-oriented display. Or maybe the coaching staff are just not good enough for the task.

Jamaica seriously underestimated our Caribbean opponents. I say this because I doubt very much that our U/20 players had any form of competitive practice matches leading up to this crucial round. I believe we thought that all we had to do was show up as victory was a mere formality. Well, the Haitians certianly had different ideas.

Still, I do believe that with faults and all the JFF are doing a decent job at this time. But they might need to make a number of coaching changes as I seriously doubt the abilities of Downswell and company to carry out the job at hand effectively.

I hold the JFF responsible for giving the job to individuals who are clearly lacking in expertise and therefore cannot improve on the goods/players/philosophy that are given to them.

Then again, I am told that that is the best that we can do.

Respect and irie ites!
