Greetings....

On Tuesday, August 6th, the Council of the City of New York, in
conjunction with the Office of the Consulate General to Jamaica, the
Jamaica Tourist Board and Air Jamaica, will be celebrating the 40th
Anniversary of the Independence of the island of Jamaica with an Awards
Ceremony and Grand Reception at City Hall. The programme is expected
to commence at 6:45 pm and will most likely end at 9:00pm, with the
reception to follow.

We will be celebrating forty years of strength, courage and resilience
of the mighty island of Jamaica through traditional music, dance, and
food. Some of Jamaica's best and brightest nationals that have
presented numerous contributions to our American society will be on hand
to celebrate with us.

We have created a Memorial Tribute to Rt. Honorable Marcus Mosiah
Garvey, Jamaica's proudest son, during our Celebration. As part of our
commitment to promote Jamaican culture and awareness, we will be
presenting a Proclamation incommemoration to Marcus Garvey post-humously
from the City of New York to his sons, Dr. Julius Garvey and Marcus
Garvey, Jr., during the ceremony.

Attached, you will find the official City Hall invitation. Feel free to
print and distribute to your colleagues and friends. Please confirm
your attendance for this prestigious event by contacting Tara L. Martin,
Director of Legislative Affairs, at 212/788-7352 or the City Hall RSVP
line at 212/788-5613.

We look forward to seeing you on August 6th!

Kind Regards,

Hon. Yvette D. Clarke Hon. Leroy Comrie
