France should qualify for the second round on a canter, with Denmark finishing second.
Senegal, the new kid on the block, just doesn't have enough history and experience at this level yet, to make it through to the next round.
Uruguay is always a honest team. But lack the star quality in my estimation to get by Denmark and France.
Group A: Outside of France, any of the other three could qualify. But look for France and Demark to make it through to the second-round.
Group B:
Perrenial underachiever, Spain, should make it out of this group with little difficulty.
My perferred choice to join Spain is Paraguay. But they will be missing influential goalkeeper, Chilavert, for the first game only(I believe), and that could mean the difference between promotion to the next round or, a plane ride home after the first-round.
South Africa I know very little of...But does it matter? I don't see them making it out of the first-round at all.
Slovenia isn't reknown like the some of the bigger teams from that side of the globe. And should battle it out with Paraguay for the second-place.
Spain and Paraguay would have been my preferred choice. But with Paraguay missing Chilavert in goal, I think that opens the door for Slovenia.
Group C:
Brasil and Turkey should move on to the second-round.
China, with the famous Bora Milutonovic(sp) leading the way, in this there first ever W/Cup apperance, should make a quick exit from the tournament and will probably go three and out.
Costa Rica--for the sake of Concacaf--I hoping will do well enough to make it through to the second-round. However, the reality of it is that, like China, they too should make a qick exit from the tournament.
Good luck to Costa Rica!
So it should be Brasil & Turkey to advance to the next round.
Group D:
Portugal plain and simple. Poland to follow beating out Korea and the USA in that order.
South Korea, with the home advantage, should turn the tables on the USA in this one and win their first ever W/Cup game.
The USA is a determine and proud bunch. But should find the bigger and more physical play of the Polish not to their liking; the skills and the quickness from Portugal too much to handle; and the determination of the home team, South Korea, just a tad-bit too much for this ambitious US bunch.
For the sake of Concacaf, however, I hope they surprise me...Please. Just cannot see it happening. Good luck to them all the same.
Group E:
Germany, Cameroon and Ireland should provide us with a tense battle to see the two that advance.
Saudi Arabia is now a fairly experience W/Cup team. And their play seem to improve with each passing tournament. They should show improvement this time around, again. But should again find be heading home after the completion of the first-round.
Cameroon: Like Brasil, Carmeroon is a sentimental favorite of mine. The "Indomitable Lions" will be a force to reckon with, but I fear internal squabbling will again be their demise.
So I am expecting the quiet and maybe a bit underated Irish team to qualify for the second round along with the ever improving Germans.
Pick: Germany and Ireland...by the slimmest of margin over Cameroon.
Group F:
Argentina and Sweden.
Nigeria is a plague unto their ownsleves. Bless with an array of talent and skillful individuals, the "Super Eagles", like the "Indomitable Lions", Cameroon, always seem to find a way to defeat themselves... and I doubt very much that this time around will be any different.
England appeared all set to make a run for the coveted Cup. But with a number of late injuries to key players, I think they will have their job cut out for them in this first-round...Still enough talent remain to give them a fighting chance.
Sweden: With all eyes on Argentina, England and Nigeria. I expect the talented Swedes to sweep right through and book a spot in the next round.
So it should be Argentina and Sweden from the group of death.
Group G:
Italy and Mexico.
Croatia is a team that I don't know much about expcept for their last W/Cup exploits. And I think that will be the main talking point for them this time around...past glory and now misfortunes.
Equador: Lack the experience and stars in my mind to qualify for the second round.
Mexico is a good team. A bit inconsistent over the last few years. But with a new man in charge, Mexico's fortunes have been turned around, and the trend should contiue all the way through to the second-rounds.
Italy and Mexico
Group H:
The improving Japanese should advance along with Russia.
Will give my second-round picks at a lata date, after I have had a chance to study the second round match-ups, based on winners and runner's up.
Respect and irie ites! Charmin
