Posted - May 22 2002 : 6:36:51 PM The world knows about the legendary Superman, Batman, Spiderman and all the other Marvel Comic book super heroes. But what the world may not yet know is that there are living super heroes in Jamica. Super heroes of a different kind, but super heroes all the same in their own rights.
In public the leader appears to be a very mild mannered creature, friendly and courteous. And though he doesn't wear a cape, like the man from Krypton. He is nonetheless just as elegant in is usual attire, the three-piece suit.
His and his crews mission: To oversea the overall growth and development of football in Jamaica and also on the international level...This they have done with a bit of success. But they now appear to have lost the vision, drive and/or the know how on what to do next to the prevent our football programme from going down the drain.
I call the leader, "Mr Blameless". Though, "Don't Ask Mi Kno Question", "Mi Nuh Gi Infamation" could also have been perfect monikers for this "exaulted one".
He can always be counted on to blame the Technical Director for the Reggae Boyz failures, even though he himself did very little in seeing to it that the TD was given the necessary staff and time to properly prepare the team for battle.
Recently he was at it again. This time, blaming the coaching staff--seemingly Carl Brown--after the team lost to the USA which appeared to have prompted Saudia Arabia to cancel the game against the Boyz which was tentatively slated for Japan.
And while it was indeed a very poor result, and the coaching staff and players should be held responsible some. One cannot help but notice the role--if you care to call it that--that "Mr Blameless" and the "Justice (We don't-have-a-clue )League" might have played in this epic drama.
First, it was "Mr Blameless" and the "Justice (We-don't-have-a-clue) League" that accepted an invitation from the USA to play a game in New Jersey on May, 16. It was the same set that didn't see it fit to hold a proper training camp, utilizing the assitant coach, since they were the ones who saw it fit to send away the TD to school(Bolton0...Who say one 'monkey' cannot stop a show?
But for all their shortsightedness, they don't even realize that by attacking the coaching staff they are only giving ammunitions to those who clearly didn't and probably don't want to support the TD; more doubts in the minds of those who supported the TD but had their doubts; And uncertainties in the minds of those who had perviously supported the TD and staff fully.
If "Mr Blameless" and the "Justice (We-don't-have-a-clue)League" is serious about the development of the game in Jamaica, and the success of the Boyz on the international levels. Then I, a humble citizen, would advise them to stop pointing fingers and start looking at the men/women in the mirror, first.
Only then will they be able to seriously institute and excecute proper strategies that will allow for the growth of the sports in Jamaica which would ultimately lead to the sustained success for all our national teams.
Respect and irie ites! Charmin
