Programme on hold to prove a point???
You can call me Oliver Stone, but I think that the JFF is setting Carl Brown up for a fall to prove their point - that there are no qualified coaches/TDs in the Caribbean to lead a country to the World Cup. That statement was made by the JFF president, Capt. Horace Burrell, and no one from the JFF said otherwise. The JFF developed strong ties and relationships with the CBF and other influential individuals in Brazillian and world football in 1994, but I cannot remember the JFF ever seeking to send Jamaican coaches and trainers away for extensive training, which would or could lead to international certification, so NO effort or plan was made to properly prepare and qualify Jamaicans to take over and effectively and successfully run Jamaica's football after Rene Simoes departure. Before de Oliviera was hired (and even during Simoes tenure)there were members of the Jamaican coaching community that felt a Jamaican coach was capable of offering just as much if he was given the same support. This sentiment grew when de Oliviera failed and Carl Brown was placed in the driver's seat for our two final qualifying games. The JFF however looked abroad for the next technical director of Jamaica's football and even stated that their search would be concentrated in Europe. Names of a few European coaches were mentioned but nothing came of those reports, and the local cries for Carl Brown's appointment grew louder. Capt. Horace Burrell then called a press conference to name Jamaica's new technical director who would have a European influence, and to everyone's surprise, including some JFF members, he was Carl Brown, Jamaica's most successful Jamaican coach. Capt. Burrell also informed us that Mr. Brown would be sent to newly promoted Bolton Wanderers FC to learn about the professional aspects of football. Mr. Brown was being sent to Bolton, NOT to an established and highly successful club with a proven track record in international football, but to a club that had to play qualifying games to advance to the EPL and for the past few years is either playing in Div. I or struggling to remain in the EPL. While Carl Brown is away in England there is little or no preparation for upcoming international qualifying tournaments, and if the national teams are not properly prepared we stand little chance of qualifying. Now who do you think will be blamed for any of our failures??? All the blame for our embarassing showing against the US has been heaped on Carl Brown, by Mr. Burrell, and Brown is also being blamed for the cancellation of the Saudi Arabia game.
By the way how is it we couldn't play any quality practice games during our WC qualification, but we had three internationals scheduled in one week???
