The West Indies cricket team was defeated by India at Queens Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago in the second test match by thirty-seven-runs.

The defeat followed the drawn test at Bourda, Guyana, which was shorten by at least a day and one session because of ran.

The puzzling thing about those two venues -- Bourda, Guyana and Queens Park Oval, Trinidad and Tobago -- is that the WICB decided on those two venues to host the first two test matches, knowing the success that India as had at those two venues.

They have never lost to us at Bourda, and before this test at Queens Park Oval, they had previously defeated the West on two other ocassions there -- In 1971 and 76.

We lost the test, however, because our batsmen failed to deliver at crunch time while the Indian bowlers, though not meanacing at all, were quite accurate throughout the game and especially on the last day when both teams had it all to play for.

Chasing a victory target of 185, with 8-wickets in hand. I gave the home team the slight edge especially with Brian Lara and Carl Hooper at the crease, the two senior of all the batsmen.

In the end, both Hooper, Lara, Murray and the tail-enders went cheaply. Leaving Gayle and Chanderpaul as the only two to put up any resistance to the Indian attack on the final days play.

Question Hooper and the selectors need to answer before the third-test in Barbados.

1) Sturat Williams and Chris Gayle: Both openers haven't faired well after two test --With Gayle fairing a little better than Williams. So they must decide if they will stick with the combination or recalled Darren Ganga or give the youngster Devon Smith his first cap.

Truthfully speaking, however, the opening partnership between Williams and Gayle, I think, should be given another chance before the towel is tossed in.

Wicketkeeper: Junior Murray's keeping hasn't been bad, but his batting has been dreadful. Murray made 0 and 0 in the first test match and 0 and 1 run-out in the second.

Bowling: They will also have to decide if they should stick with the four-prong pace attack...which did relatively well...or include a spinner.

All four bowlers bowled well, especially in the Indian's second-innigs, taking vital wic kets at crucial points in the game.

Anyway, the test matches will take a nine-day break while the Busta Cup eleven challenge the Indians over three-days.

Jamaicans in the Busta Cup squad, which will be led by ex-West Indies wicketkeeper/batsman, Ridley Jacobs, are:

Darren Powell, Wavell Hinds and Gareth Breese.
